MARIHUANA - a Puff - a Party - a Tragedy! A high-school girl gets involved with a ring of teenage marijuana smokers and starts down the road to ruin. A reporter poses as a soda jerk to infiltrate the gang of teen dope fiends. Joan Barry stands to inherit her late grandmother's fortune if she is able to fulfill a morals clause in the will. However, her greedy cousin Linda and her husband Jack plan to frame Joan by getting her loaded on marijuana and getting caught with Jack in a motel room. It is up to cub reporter Art Brighton to not only save Joan, but to bust a gang of dope peddlers, which Linda Belongs to, infecting the town. This 1937 rare film is often toted as being possibly the most well made of the drug-era exploitation flicks, even though it is lesser known. Black & white. 80 mins. long.
"Cocaine Fiends"
AKA "The Pace That Kills"
Crazed dope fiends on a narcotic rampage! Drug pusher Nick stops off at a small-town diner and convinces the girl who runs it, Jane Bradford, to hide him from the cops. Jane, a good girl, is smitten by the handsome and debonair Nick, who gives her a "headache powder" to snort to take her pounding headache away. Nick convinces her to go with him to the city, where they will be married. Jane leaves her mother and goes off to the city with Nick, where she discovers that he is really a drug dealer and that the "medicine" she has been taking is really cocaine. Nick soon runs into Joan's brother Eddie and soon he's hooked as well! Having spiraled off the deep end Jane meets up with Eddie at an opeum den, telling him that, while it's too late for her, he can still get rehabilitated, since he's only in the beginning stages of the addiction. What will happen in this gripping drama? Will Nick and Jane realize and admit that they're HOPHEADS?! One of the worst (and by that we mean so bad it's good) drug films to entertain snickering audiences since "Reefer Madness". This 1935 propaganda film is one of the most famous.. er, infamous, drug exploitation films ever made. Black & white. 68 mins. long.
